Professional Overview
There are many more aspects of a person that determines worthiness and fit when seeking a career position. This letter will serve to introduce my values and some of my experiences that were not discussed on my resume.
Our days are full of “requests for connections,” both at home and at work. How we respond is a critical factor in creating a climate of trust. As I gathered research for my thesis paper, I read a quote by Terence Brake that influenced my life, “In every job, the connections we make, how we make them, how we keep them, and what they can mean to us, and to our future is the true measure of our integrity.”
As a result, I have included my personal vision of integrity as the cornerstone of my mission statement. I am committed to treating every connection I make as significant. Working in an environment that promotes trust and teamwork is an important goal for me. I am also committed to refraining from judging others, gossiping, or ever speaking badly of the company for which I work. In this manner I can help create an environment where people will be happy to come to work, customers will find satisfaction with our services, and employees will share with supervisors in the responsibility of a productive and effective workplace.
My work in Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD has given me an opportunity to expand my skills beyond the original job description. The following experiences represent some of those additional skills:
- Working with volunteers and patiently helping people through the application process.
- Using my bilingual skills to help frustrated parents and to solve problems for bilingual students.
- Helping parents’ complete transfers for their students to different schools for many reasons including: choice, problems at school, and bullying.
- Working with Dr. Franklin on anti-bullying practices and procedures.
- Creating Student Code of Conduct and Student handbook under the direction of Dr. Franklin and Deborah Millican.
- Gaining experience working with attorneys when dealing with confidential student information.
- Helping create PowerPoint and learning about McKinney Vento, what constitutes McKinney Vento, and what resources are available has given me a new area of expertise.
Volunteer and Other Work
Each of us has a life outside of our professional occupation. As the mother of a large (now mostly grown) family, I have been privileged to participate and learn from a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.
- Learning about different disabilities in my pedagogies of learning class, and as the parent of and the grandparent of children with disabilities has given me a much different perspective on the needs and concerns of those students. I have also learned that the potential contribution of each disabled person is a gift that must not be squandered through neglect or disinterest.
- Counseling with other women through church responsibilities, being a member of Camp Make a Dream for Women with Ovarian Cancer, and attending the infusion room at Texas Oncology has given me insight into loss, endurance, hope, and determination.
- Studying the effect of attendance on dropout rates, starting as young as Kindergarten, has renewed my conviction that keeping students engaged is definitely a team effort.
- Working with disgruntled teachers in explaining Professional development hours and rules also helped me see both sides of a difficult situation.
- Accepting the role of Den Leader for Cub Scouts, Bear Scouts, and Webelo Scouts 15 years again taught me that wiggly boys, with constant love and attention, can become good citizens as young men.
- Challenges of young women ages 12-18 became up close and personal as the Leader in our church group May 2014-2016. These young girls face many challenges, but also have many great opportunities available for setting demanding personal goals.
- Participating as the Youth Girls 12-18 Camp Leader from January 2014-May 2014, including spending one week at camp with our girls, and a diverse group of other girls from our area emphasized the need for advanced planning, emergency planning, flexibility, and the importance of feedback.
